Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka was forced to cut short his two day tour in Tharaka Nithi County on Thursday after rowdy youths started chanting pro government slogan.
Kalonzo started his tour by opening a Wiper liberation front office in Tharaka Nithi County.
He later proceeded to a rally in Kibong’a where he was disrupted by youths shouting pro-government slogan, forcing him to cut short his tour.
The chants drown out his speech with youths shouting “Tutam” as Kalonzo tried to address the crowd.
Tutam is a phrase used by pro-government supporters to mean President William Ruto will serve for two terms as presindent.
The chant overpowered his speech forcing him to abandon his address and cut short his visit and later expressed his frustration at the disruption.
Kalonzo accused a senior government official of orchestrating the chaos terming it as tactic intimidation and intolerance.
“He should set the example by allowing people to come to his place freely, but if he’s going to allow this to continue, how will he be received elsewhere,’’ he said.
The slogan, which has recently gained popularity in government circles, is widely seen as a direct counter to the “one term” narrative introduced by former Deputy President and DCP leader Rigathi Gachagua.
Gachagua had earlier used the “one term” slogan in rallies, seen as a challenge to President Ruto’s re-election bid in 2027.
Wiper leader condemned the disruption, terming it a reflection of rising political intolerance under the Kenya Kwanza administration.
Kalonzo urged leaders to promote democracy and allow room for opposition voices, warning that paying youth to disrupt rallies undermines Kenya’s democratic space.
He warned that political hostility was becoming a hall mark of Kenya Kwanza administration, urging leaders to embrace democracy.
