Former prime minister and Orange Democratic Movement party
leader has clarified that their pact with the United Democratic Alliance is valid
until 2027 and not beyond the year.
He was speaking at an ODM parliament group meeting that
brought together ODM members from the national assembly together with the party’s
leadership, organised in Machakos County ahead of their ODM @20 celebration slated
for October this year.
Speaking during the meeting, the ODM leader said;
“Look at what we have signed, we must remain as ODM. We signed and agreed that we will work together up to 2027.”
He added;
“We have not passed any resolutions as a party to
say how we are going to go into the elections of 2027".
The ODM leader has sharply criticised members of the party who have been making speculations about the party’s future decisions that have not been agreed upon by the party’s decision-making organs.
Speaking to members who have lately talked as if to communicate the position of the party, Raila said:
“Wherever you are, don’t commit the party to some things which have not been discussed. Let them be discussed first.”
He said amid claps and cheers from the members of the party.
He asked the members to first think as members of ODM as
they support what has previously been negotiated and agreed upon pact with the
Kenya Kwanza government.
The ODM veteran politician was responding to members of his
party who had previously speculated and maintained that the party had already
decided to support President William Ruto’s reelection and were rallying members
from the traditional ODM support base to rally behind the president’s party ‘Tutam’
slogan.
He said that the party is yet to decide on whether
or not to field a presidential candidate in the coming 2027 general elections, adding that the party will give the direction later.
