World record holder Faith Kipyegon continued her historic dominance on the track after clinching her second consecutive Tiffany Athlos title with the fastest women’s mile ever recorded on US soil.
The Athlos, which is slowly being dubbed the “Super Bowl” of track and field, is an elite, women-only professional series that debuted at Icahn Stadium in New York City on September 26, 2024.
Kipyegon won the 1500-metre race during the inaugural edition and returned this year to defend her title in emphatic fashion.
The second Athlos competition was held on October 9 and 10, 2025, attracting some of the biggest names in women’s middle-distance running and a star-studded spectator fanbase that included celebrities.
On Friday, Kipyegon clocked 4:17.78 to capture the Tiffany Crown after beating a formidable line-up that included Ethiopia’s Gudaf Tsegay — the indoor world record holder for 1500 metres and a three-time world champion — Susan Ejore-Sanders, Kenya's indoor national record holder and American record holder Nikki Hiltz.
Tsegay finished second in 4:19.75 while Hiltz finished third in 4:32.51.
Tsegay, who also competed in last year’s event, has been one of Kipyegon’s fiercest rivals on the global stage.
Her presence, along with a deep field of world and national champions, underscored the high calibre of competition that Athlos continues to attract.

Earlier this year, she broke the world record in the 1500 metres at the Prefontaine Classic and came close to achieving another milestone in Paris, where she attempted to become the first woman to run a sub-four-minute mile.
Though she fell short of that barrier, she set a new world best in the process.
At the World Championships in Tokyo, the Kenyan star claimed her fourth world title in the 1500 metres and went on to share the podium with compatriot Beatrice Chebet in the 5000 metres, adding yet another chapter to her record-breaking career.
Following the same prize structure as last year, winners at Athlos received $60,000 (Sh7.7 million), while an additional $250,000 (Sh32.2 million) was reserved for any athlete who broke a world record.
All payouts were made immediately after official confirmation of results, following a historic partnership with CashApp.
Back home, Kipyegon’s victory drew widespread praise from Kenyans and leaders alike.
Tourism Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano hailed her achievement, saying: “Heartfelt congratulations to the incomparable Faith Kipyegon on winning the Athlos Championship Women's Mile in New York! Her victory, and a new record on US soil, once again shines a bright spotlight on Kenya's world-beating talent. What an inspiration to us all!”
