Acting NTSA Director General Eng. Angela Wanjira
Transport Cabinet Secretary Davis Chirchir has appointed Angela Wanjira as the Acting Director General of the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA).

Eng. Wanjira takes over from George Njao, who is leaving after serving a maximum of two terms in accordance with the law.

“The Board of Directors notifies management and members of staff of the appointment of Eng. Angela Wanjira as NTSA Acting Director General for a period of 3 months, effective 6th of November 2025,” Board Chairman Khatib Mwashetani said in a memo to NTSA staff.

Mwashetani’s memo dated November 7, 2025, adds, “This is part of a planned leadership transition, as the board seeks to recruit a substantive DG.”

She is currently the Director in charge of Motor Vehicle Inspection and Road Safety.

NTSA says Eng. Wanjira is a seasoned civil engineer and visionary leader with over 20 years of experience in transportation planning, road safety audits, and sustainable infrastructure design and construction.

“Having held the position of Director of Motor Vehicle Inspection and Road Safety, Eng. Wanjira brings extensive experience and is well-positioned to lead NTSA during this interim period. The Board is confident in Eng. Wanjira’s ability to guide the Authority forward during this transition,” Mwashetani said.

“As the NTSA fraternity, we must remain fully committed to road safety, service delivery to our clients, and supporting Eng. Angela to ensure smooth transactions and continued success.”

Her distinguished career spans both NTSA, as the Director of Motor Vehicle Inspection and Safety Audits, and private sector, where she has successfully led multidisciplinary teams in developing and implementing initiatives that enhance safety, efficiency, and sustainability in transport systems.

A registered Professional Engineer, Eng. Wanjira holds a Master of Science in Transport with Business Management from Imperial College London and a First-Class Honours Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Nairobi.

NTSA board has already advertised the DG’s vacancy following the expiry of Njao’s term, having been appointed as NTSA boss on November 12, 2019, to replace Francis Meja for a period of three years following a competitive recruitment exercise.

In an advert appearing in last week’s MyGov publication, suitable candidates have been asked to apply for the job on or before the deadline of November 28.

Interested persons should possess a master’s degree in either Engineering, Business Management, Sciences, technology, Commerce, Social Sciences, Education, Law or any other related field form a recognised university.

The prospective candidate should also have at least 15 years of experience in the public or private sector, of which five should be at the senior management level, in addition to complying with chapter six of the conditions on leadership and integrity.
