Makadara MP and ODM Nairobi County Chairman George Aladwa has come to the defence of Interior PS Dr Raymond Omollo, dismissing recent criticism over abductions as politically motivated and lacking factual basis.

Addressing a press conference, Aladwa said he had taken note of what he described as sustained attacks against Omollo following his comments on the contentious issue of alleged enforced disappearances in the country.

He argued that the criticism directed at the Principal Secretary was "unfortunate, misleading and driven more by politics than by facts."

According to the legislator, Omollo spoke from his position as a senior government official with direct oversight of critical aspects of Kenya's security architecture and should not be subjected to political attacks for carrying out his official responsibilities.

"His remarks should not be deliberately distorted to advance partisan interests or inflame public emotions," Aladwa said.

The MP defended the government's position on the matter, maintaining that the administration led by President William Ruto has consistently rejected allegations that it condones enforced disappearances, unlawful arrests or extrajudicial actions.

"The Kenya Kwanza administration under President William Ruto has consistently maintained that it neither condones nor sanctions enforced disappearances, unlawful arrests or extrajudicial actions," he said.

Aladwa added that the government remains committed to upholding the Constitution, the rule of law and the rights of every Kenyan, insisting that any criminal allegations should be investigated through established legal and constitutional mechanisms rather than being used for political gain.

"Where criminal acts occur, they should be investigated through the appropriate legal and constitutional processes rather than exploited for political mileage," he stated.

The ODM Nairobi chairman further accused Omollo's critics of seeking political advantage instead of supporting efforts aimed at strengthening the country's security.

"Those attempting to vilify Omollo are more interested in scoring political points than supporting the country's efforts to strengthen national security. It is irresponsible to demonise dedicated public servants simply because they decline to endorse unverified allegations or politically convenient narratives," he said.

He credited Omollo with working closely with security agencies, county administrations and other stakeholders to enhance peace, improve coordination within government and strengthen public safety across the country.

The MP also urged political leaders to support institutions responsible for safeguarding lives and property instead of engaging in what he termed reckless attacks against officers performing their constitutional duties.

He called on those criticising Omollo to exercise restraint and ensure that public debate is guided by facts and evidence rather than speculation or political expediency.

"Public discourse should be anchored on facts, evidence and respect for institutions rather than speculation, propaganda or political expediency. Reckless accusations only undermine public confidence in the very institutions entrusted with safeguarding the nation," he said.

Aladwa further appealed for national cohesion and constructive dialogue, warning against attempts to politicise matters of national security or unfairly target public officers.

"As leaders, we have a duty to promote national cohesion, constructive dialogue and responsible leadership. We must resist attempts to politicise matters of national security or unfairly target public officers who continue to serve Kenyans with integrity and professionalism," he said.
