IT SEEMS SOME government-leaning
politicians are yet to recover from the
shock of a recent by-election defeat.
Some lawmakers who camped in the area
were overheard lamenting that voters
rejected their candidate despite a massive
investment in the campaign. They said
they conducted door-to-door campaigns,
distributed goodies and spent heavily assisting needy families. Some even dug into
their own pockets after being promised refunds. With their candidate losing the race,
there is uncertainty over whether they will
ever recover the personal resources they
spent.

A FEMALE LAWMAKER eyeing a governor’s seat in a far-flung region is reportedly
considering quitting the race after a key
political backer withdrew support. The
influential politician had allegedly promised
to bankroll her campaign to unseat the
incumbent, with whom he had strained
relations. However, after a recent meeting
with the incumbent and other leaders, the
two reportedly agreed to work together.
Since then, the politician has supposedly
gone silent and ignored the lawmaker’s
calls. With funding now in doubt, she is weighing whether to remain in the contest.

A STORM IS brewing within the majority
party in a cosmopolitan county assembly
after a senior party leader reportedly convened a meeting of MCAs from one community. During the meeting, the lawmakers
allegedly agreed to dewhip their current
assembly leaders, purportedly arguing
they should be replaced by members from
their community. The move has sparked
disquiet within the assembly, with MCAs
allied to the embattled leaders threatening
to decamp from the party if the plan is
implemented.

A FORMER GOVERNOR who lost his
reelection bid is quietly plotting a political
comeback. The ex-county boss has alig- ned himself with emerging political figures
in the region in a bid to rebuild his profile.
Insiders say he is coordinating a major po- litical event in his constituency to welcome
one of the rising leaders during a planned
homecoming. The move is seen as part of
his strategy to regain relevance. Whether it
will be enough to recapture his former seat
remains to be seen.
