A nanny linked to a robbery incident in Nairobi’s Eastleigh Estate back in November last year has been arrested after weeks of manhunt.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said in a statement Tuesday evening that the 23-year-old suspect was arrested at Nairobi’s Kariokor area while attempting to board a Uganda-bound bus.

According to the DCI, the suspect is the female captured on CCTV collaborating with a male accomplice during a robbery incident at her employer’s house on November 1, 2024.

A 20-year-old househelp who was in the house during the robbery was grievously assaulted by the intruder, the DCI said.

Timestamps on the surveillance footage show that the robbery incident happened at around 4.45pm.

The footage shows the male suspect approaching the house before he forcefully gained entry as the househelp appeared hesitant to let him in.

The unknown assailant then followed the escaping housekeeper and assaulted her using a hammer after she fell at the kitchen door.

Her colleague househelp who watched the incident unfold, fled with the intruder after taking various items, including pieces of gold jewellery, laptop, phone and cash all valued at Sh335,000, the DCI said in a statement.

“According to reports filed at Pangani Police Station, the duo reportedly assaulted the other maid, leaving her for dead in the bathroom.”

In their report on November 3, 2024, the DCI said the assault victim sustained serious injuries, including a broken tooth and injuries to her hand, head and legs, and also exhibited signs of having been whipped.

“At the time of the incident, the tenant was not at home; he was out with his children, while his wife was reported to be in India for medical treatment,” the DCI said.

The suspect is undergoing processing pending arraignment.

“Meanwhile, the manhunt for her accomplice, who remains at large, is still in full swing,” the DCI said.
