Allies of President William Ruto have taken their campaign to woo Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka straight to his doorstep in Katse, Mwingi North.

The lawmakers want the former Vice President to abandon the opposition and work with Government ahead of 2027.

The political foray comes just days after Deputy President Kithure Kindiki revealed that talks were underway, declaring he had “not given up” on bringing Kalonzo into Ruto’s fold.

UDA National Organising Secretary and Mwala MP Vincent Kawaya led the charge, telling a charged village gathering that time had come for Kalonzo to “choose development over isolation.”

“In the last elections, we in Ukambani didn’t field a presidential candidate. It was Raila versus Ruto. Today Raila is in government and his region is smiling with development. Ukambani is getting something, but it would be more if Kalonzo was working with President Ruto,” Kawaya said.

Speaking at a Boda Boda empowerment event at Katse, Kawaya insisted the aim was not to fight the Wiper boss but to bring him into government for the benefit of the region.

“We don’t have to fight Kalonzo Musyoka — he is our elder, almost retiring. I am leading government programmes here and I am asking him respectfully; we want to work with you. Leaders like Rigathi Gachagua have already developed their regions. Why should ours remain behind?” he posed.

Nominated Senator Beth Syengo backed the call, warning that political cold awaited those outside government.

“Please join government. Outside there it is cold. Development is inside government. We want Ukambani to grow and catch up with other regions,” she said.

Masinga MP Joshua Mwalyo said Kalonzo was clinging to a losing script.

“The person who understands opposition politics is Raila Odinga, not Kalonzo. Yet Raila is now in government and developing his region with speed. Government has everything Kenyans need. Opposition has nothing to offer,” Mwalyo said.

Nominated Senator Tabitha Mutinda also appealed to Kalonzo to “make a strategic decision” and work with the Head of State.

Away from politics, the leaders addressed the ongoing lecturers’ strike that has paralysed learning in universities.

Kawaya, himself a former lecturer, urged the dons to tone down and talk.

“Our sons and daughters in university are suffering. I know what it takes to teach, but let’s give dialogue a chance so we don’t waste valuable time. The government has hired over 70,000 teachers, reduced university fees , let’s go back to class,” he said.

Mutinda added: “Parents have suffered to keep students in school. Let lecturers embrace dialogue instead of punishing innocent learners.”

The leaders insisted that for Ukambani to unlock full development before 2027, Kalonzo Musyoka must align with the government and said their message delivered in his own village should not be ignored.
