President William Ruto on Saturday shared a glimpse of his passion for farming while in the company of First Lady Mama Rachel Ruto at his Transmara farm in Narok County.
As heavy rains pound various parts
of the country, farmers have the perfect opportunity to engage in planting.
For this reason, President Ruto
visited his Narok farm to inspect a wheat planting exercise.
During the visit, the president was
seen driving a tractor connected to a wheat planter, an agricultural machine
designed to sow wheat seeds into the ground.
On board was First Lady Mama Rachel.

“There is no greater satisfaction
than being part of ensuring Kenyans are well-fed. Farming is my passion,” Ruto
said as he drove the tractor across the farm, planting wheat on the vast land.
“This is very important because we
are planting wheat. I know many farmers like myself go out of their way, beyond
the call of duty, to ensure we plant on time.”
Ruto emphasized the crucial role
farmers play in the economy and urged them to intensify efforts to make Kenya a
food-independent nation.

“Feeding the nation is very
important. It is what the country needs. A nation that cannot feed itself
cannot claim to be independent. For us to be independent, we must feed
ourselves. I ask my fellow farmers to work hard,” he said.
Mama Rachel, for her part, described
farming as interesting, adding that they were raised in a family that cherished
it.
“Farming is very interesting. You know,
we grew up on a farm,” she said.
