Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has dismissed claims by Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka and the Opposition that the Kenya Kwanza administration plans to rig the 2027 elections.

Speaking in Kuria East, Kindiki stated that the Opposition was already panicking and had begun blackmailing the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

He asserted that the electoral body cannot influence elections in anyone’s favour.

“Our opponents are already panicking and blackmailing the newly sworn-in IEBC. Commissioners are referees. They cannot favour anyone or influence election results,” Kindiki said on Saturday.

The Deputy President reiterated that Kenya Kwanza does not need any favours from the electoral body, saying doing so would be unconstitutional.

He insisted that the William Ruto-led administration has a well-thought-out plan that it will present to the people in its bid for a second term.

Kindiki urged the Opposition to prepare adequately for the 2027 General Election.

“We are so clear in our minds. We don't need any favour from the IEBC. Doing so would be unconstitutional and a violation of the law. We wish the IEBC well. We are telling our opponents to prepare themselves for a major duel.

“We have our work plan in place. We are developing every part of the country and empowering citizens through transformative policies and programmes. That is how we will seek a second term. That's why we are saying: Two-Term,” the DP said.

Kindiki was responding to remarks made by former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka on Friday, claiming President Ruto had handpicked the current IEBC.

The Wiper leader also warned the electoral body against any attempts to tamper with the 2027 elections.

“The new IEBC has been sworn in today, and one thing is undeniable: This is a handpicked Ruto commission.

“To the new IEBC, please do not try Kenyans. Already, the irregularities are far too many. Therefore, stand warned that any attempt to tamper with the electoral process will be met with unrelenting resistance. The will of the people is not negotiable,” Kalonzo said.

Chief Justice Martha Koome swore in the new IEBC commissioners on Friday.
