Over 200 families left homeless after devastating fires in
Kiamaiko and Mabatini villages, Mathare Constituency, have received government
relief aid.
The intervention was led by the Cabinet Secretary for Public
Service, Human Capital Development and Special Programmes, Geoffrey Ruku on
Monday
During his visit, CS Ruku distributed food, bedding, and
other essential items.
“No Kenyan should be left to suffer alone in the face of
tragedy. We are here to walk with you until you get back on your feet,” he said.”
He pledged continued support through the State Department
for Special Programmes and stressed the importance of disaster preparedness.
“This is a critical moment to restore dignity and instil
hope in the lives of these families. Rebuilding after such a loss requires not
just compassion, but consistent action,” he added.
The twin fires destroyed 110 homes in Kiamaiko and another
101 in Mabatini, leaving residents without shelter.
Victims lost almost all their belongings, and one person is
suspected to have died from electrocution during the incident.
Preliminary findings linked the fires to illegal electricity
connections, open flames, and unsafe handling of gas cylinders.

To replace important documents lost in the fire, Ruku
directed Huduma Centre staff in Eastleigh to set up a service tent at the
Deputy County Commissioner’s office.
He also engaged the Kenya National Examinations Council to
assist victims in replacing certificates verified by local administrators.
“This government is committed to transformative service
delivery that directly touches lives at the grassroots,” the CS said.
Ruku promised to work with other government departments on
sustainable housing and livelihood programmes for the affected families.
He further reiterated the Ministry’s commitment to bringing
government services closer to citizens through the Huduma Smart Serikalini
initiative.
