President William Ruto will grace the International Youth Day celebrations in Kakamega.

The event will be held at Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology in Kakamega town from 8am.

Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa will host the President.

The theme of International Youth Day (IYD) 2025, Local Youth Actions for the SDGs and Beyond, highlights the unique role of youth in translating global ambitions into community-driven realities.

This year’s IYD will also underscore the essential role of local and regional governments.

International Youth Day (IYD) is commemorated annually on August 12 to raise awareness of the challenges and opportunities facing young people around the world.

It serves as a platform to promote youth engagement and celebrate their contributions to society, development, and peace.

MPs summon Mbadi, Wandayi, EPRA, KETRACO and REREC over Sh30 billion due to Kenya Power

The Public Investments Committee on Commercial Affairs and Energy will meet Cabinet Secretaries John Mbadi (National Treasury) and Opiyo Wandayi (Energy) over dues to Kenya Power at 10 am, County Hall.

Members of the committee will also meet officials from the Energy & Petroleum Regulatory Authority and the Rural Electrification & Renewable Energy Corporation over the same.

Kenya Power is owed Sh30 billion by the Ministry of Energy and the Treasury for the provision of subsidised power.

The lawmakers have expressed frustration over the Treasury’s repeated disregard for parliamentary summons, particularly when called to address audit queries.

The committee’s summons followed an audit report by Auditor General Nancy Gathungu, which questioned why Kenya Power had not been reimbursed for the electrification projects.

Parliamentary committees receive stakeholder views on Kenya Pipeline privatisation 

Committee on Energy and Public Debt and the Privatisation Committee will continue to receive stakeholder views on plans to privatise the Kenya Pipeline Company (KPC).

The meeting will be held at Hilton Garden Inn, Mombasa Road, from noon.

Parliament has kicked off critical deliberations on the proposed privatisation of KPC, a key player in the petroleum supply chain.

The joint committee is receiving stakeholder views on the National Treasury's plan to list KPC on the Nairobi Securities Exchange.

The government is seeking to raise Sh100 billion from the transaction.

On Monday, the committee met National Treasury John Mbadi, who told members the government will retain about a 35 per cent shareholding in the deal.

Set to appear today are officials from the Attorney General's office, Privatisation Commission, Ministry of Energy and Nairobi Securities Exchange, among others.

BATUK, CS Tuya face MPs in probe into British Army conduct

The National Assembly Defence, Intelligence and Foreign Relations Committee will meet the Cabinet Secretary for Defence, Soipan Tuya and the leadership of the British Army Training Unit in Kenya on an inquiry into the conduct of the British Army Training Unit in Kenya (BATUK).

The meeting will be held from 10 am at Bunge Towers.

MPs had demanded that the top bosses of BATUK appear before it to explain alleged human rights abuses.

The Defence, Intelligence and Foreign Relations Committee, which is seeking accountability for decades of alleged human rights violations, including sexual violence and killings.

The committee is assessing Batuk’s operational integrity, especially safety protocols, compliance with legal requirements and adherence to established military standards.

The controversial 2012 murder of Agnes Wanjiru will also be included in the probe.
