Boyd Were of the ODM party has pledged to serve all residents of Kasipul following his victory in the November 27 by-election.

The 27-year-old spoke shortly after receiving his winner’s certificate at Agoro Sare High School in Oyugis town, promising to deliver on his campaign pledges.

Soon after his election, Were said he would work with all constituents.

He thanked residents for their support, saying, "I still believe that I am fit to be the MP for Kasipul constituency. I thank our people for the great support they have given me."

He also commended the IEBC for conducting a credible process.

"We'll unite our people and ensure service delivery across the constituency," he said.

He was accompanied by Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga, MPs Peter Kaluma (Homa Bay Town) and Lilian Gogo (Rangwe), and MCAs Nicholas Owaka (Kanyamwa Kosewe) and Florence Ouma (nominated).

Wanga argued that Were's election was a clear indication that Kasipul people still love ODM party.

She said besides Kasipul, ODM retained all other two MP seats they were looking for in Magarini and Ugunja constituencies.

Wanga said Were's win should be the end of violence in Kasipul, adding that they want peace.

"The landslide victory of Were shows that ODM is still strong at the grassroots. We're happy with the people of Kasipul for electing Were," Wanga said.

The governor said her administration will work closely with Were to develop the constituents.

On her part, Gogo said the election of Were shows that residents of Kasipul believe in the leadership of young people.

"We appreciate the people of Kasipul for trusting the young Were with leadership. ODM will continue," Gogo said.

Ouma said majority of residents have defied all the obstacles to elect Were as the MP.

"The victory belongs to the people of Kasipul for defying all odds. We appreciate the people of Kasipul for electing Were," Ouma said.
