Phones recovered by police in Mandera /NPS
Two suspected phone snatchers have been arrested in Mandera East subcounty following a successful operation by the National Police Service, authorities confirmed on Thursday.

The operation, which was based on intelligence reports, led to the recovery of several stolen mobile phones and the dismantling of what is believed to be a local phone-snatching syndicate.

Police officers conducted the operation in the Kona B area of Mandera Town after receiving credible information about criminal activities targeting mobile phone users in the region.

The swift action resulted in the arrest of the two suspects, whose identities have not been publicly disclosed pending further investigations.

Following the arrests, police carried out a search of the suspects’ rented residence in Kona B, where they recovered four stolen mobile phones.

The items were subsequently traced back to their rightful owners, who were invited to the police station to identify and reclaim their property.

The National Police Service has reiterated its commitment to protecting the public and ensuring the safety of residents across Mandera county.

Police spokesperson said similar initiatives will continue nationwide to dismantle criminal networks involved in mobile phone theft and other related crimes.

Authorities have reminded residents that suspicious activities can be reported at the nearest police station, through emergency numbers 999 or 911, or via the #FichuaKwaDCI toll-free line on 0800 722 203. Reports can also be made through the dedicated WhatsApp number 0709 570 000, ensuring anonymity for those who wish to remain confidential.

The arrests in Mandera mark another step in the ongoing effort by law enforcement agencies to curb mobile phone theft, which has been a growing concern in urban and peri-urban areas across Kenya.

Police say they remain committed to proactive measures aimed at safeguarding citizens and enhancing public confidence in law enforcement.
