Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has outlined seven golden key areas that are poised to transform the Kenyan economy during the tenure of President William Ruto.
Speaking when he chaired the 26th Ordinary Session of the Intergovernmental Budget and Economic Council (IBEC) at his Karen residence office, Kindiki said the golden areas will be prioritized by the Kenya Kwanza administration.
He said that they have the largest impact on the lives of many Kenyans.
The areas include Macroeconomic stability, revitalization of critical value chains, and Infrastructure support such as roads, markets, County Aggregation and Industrial Parks as well as Special Economic Zones (SEZs).
Others are job creation locally, abroad or on digital platforms, affordable and social housing, and Education and Health sector reforms.
“Macroeconomic stability remains the cornerstone of our BETA agenda, as it is the bedrock of all the priority interventions we have identified, that offer the greatest impact for the largest number of Kenyans,” Kindiki said.
The Deputy President noted that Kenya is currently witnessing strong macroeconomic indicators of economic recovery.
He added that reduced rate of inflation, reduction in food prices, reduced petroleum prices and the reduced cost of living point towards a healthy and steady economy.
“I am happy to note that generally, the economic situation is getting stable. The indicators of macroeconomic stability are beginning to coalesce and stabilise and that is good for the economy.
“You have seen just two days ago Kenya's rating by international rating agency Moody's has placed Kenya in a good position from negative to positive and that is as a result of the hard work for the last two years which has been able to arrest the escalation of the Macroeconomic fundamentals.”
Kindiki, however, warned that while this is good, the governors must remain aware of the challenges the government still faces as a result of the revenue-expenditure gap.
This, he attributed to debts inherited from previous administrations.
