Jubilee Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni has said the
party is still in the Azimio la Umoja coalition.
He said there was prove of the same, an agreement they
signed, and which was presented to the registrar of political
parties and to the Speaker of the National Assembly.
Speaking during an interview on Spice FM on Tuesday,
Kioni said the party will remain in Azimio until they get into another
coalition agreement.
"We in Jubilee signed that agreement and we are
in Azimio to date and will remain in Azimio until we get into another coalition
agreement when that time comes," he said.
Kioni said now that ODM signed a pact with the government
and some parties already announced their exit, Jubilee will step in and take
leadership of the opposition.
He added that they will be backed up by Kenyans.
"Kenyans are in the opposition and the people who
are being scrutinised more are those in the opposition because that is where
hope is," he said.
Weighing in on the Memorandum of Understanding signed
by President William Ruto and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga on Friday, he
said the former should have included all parties in Azimio.
Kioni revealed that he wished Raila had used the
institutions that were already in place to get them to move forward.
He said Raila should have carried with him the whole
of Azimio into the negotiation, instead of taking only one party - ODM - with
him.
"That would have been very important because that
has happened all along. How I wish Ruto had engaged all parties in the
coalition," he said.
Earlier on Saturday, Kioni accused Raila of abandoning
his political allies without warning, despite their collective efforts to
secure votes for him in the 2022 General Election.
“We traversed the country campaigning and mobilising
votes for Raila. We were all over as Azimio looking for votes. Even if you have
decided to leave, why not inform those who have been with you?” Kioni asked.
