Kisii RFC will seek to return to winning ways when they host United States International University Africa (USIU-A) Martials at Cardinal Otunga High School, Mosocho, on Saturday as the KRU Championship enters Matchday Four.

Kisii are coming off a narrow 29–28 defeat to fellow Kenya Cup side Western Bulls at the Bull Ring in Kakamega last weekend. USIU-A Martials, meanwhile, suffered a 22–17 loss to Mwamba RFC.

Despite their slow start to the season, USIU-A Martials head coach Tom Lagat is confident his side is close to securing their first victory. “I expect a positive result against Kisii Rugby. What we have been working on is starting to show,” said Lagat.

Reflecting on the loss to Mwamba, Lagat admitted early lapses proved costly. “We started slowly and allowed them to score three quick tries. Once we settled, we controlled the tempo and drew level by the 60th minute. A lapse in concentration in the closing stages allowed Mwamba to score, and we didn’t have time to recover,” he explained.

Kisii Rugby currently sit sixth on the standings with 10 points from three matches, while USIU-A Martials are 11th with three points.

Elsewhere in the KRU Championship, the Catholic University of East Africa’s Catholic Monks will host Homeboyz in a clash of former Kenya Cup sides.

Catholic Monks remain unbeaten after four matches. Another unbeaten team, JKUAT Cougars, face a tricky test against fellow varsity side Zetech Oaks. At the NYS Headquarters in Nairobi, NYS Spades will entertain Western Bulls, while Mwamba RFC host Mombasa RFC.

Mean Machine travel to Kwale to face South Coast Pirates, coached by Tony Kadhambi, at Seacrest School in Diani. Pirates narrowly lost 13–8 to Mombasa RFC in last weekend’s Coast derby, while Mean Machine fell 29–22 to Catholic Monks.

At the top of the table, Catholic Monks lead with 20 points, followed by Mwamba RFC on 16. JKUAT Cougars are third with 11 points, level with South Coast Pirates, who sit fourth.
