Gor Mahia have been dealt a severe blow ahead of the 2026/27 season after midfield maestro and reigning SportPesa League MVP Enock Morrison completed a transfer to Sudanese heavyweights Al-Merrikh SC.

The 26-year-old Ghanaian midfielder has signed a three-year contract with the Omdurman-based club until 2029, bringing an end to a highly successful two-year spell with K'Ogalo where he established himself as one of the region's most influential players.

Al-Merrikh officially announced the signing on Sunday, welcoming the creative midfielder to their ranks.

"Ghana’s Black Stars midfielder Enock Morrison is a new addition to Al-Merrikh’s squad until 2029, arriving from Kenyan club Gor Mahia," the club confirmed in a statement.

Morrison's exit had been widely anticipated by local football enthusiasts following prolonged uncertainty and a stalemate over contract renewal talks with the Kenyan champions.

Morrison originally joined Gor Mahia from Ghanaian giants Asante Kotoko SC in July 2024 and quickly established himself as the heartbeat of the team.

While Gor Mahia endured a difficult first season upon his arrival, Morrison played a central role in the club's dramatic resurgence during the 2025/26 campaign, driving K'Ogalo back to the summit of Kenyan football to reclaim the FKF Premier League title.

His exceptional consistency throughout that championship-winning season saw him emerge as the league's ultimate standout performer. He finished the campaign with 30 appearances, scoring three goals and providing four assists, while regularly picking up Man of the Match accolades.

This stellar run culminated in him being crowned the SportPesa League Most Valuable Player alongside walking away with the Best Midfielder award.

Morrison's departure leaves a massive void in the centre of the pitch for Gor Mahia, particularly as the club prepares to navigate a demanding CAF Champions League campaign next season.

To mitigate the loss, Gor Mahia management has already moved quickly to reinforce the midfield department. The club recently secured the signature of Enock Machaka from National Super League side Nairobi United FC as part of their rebuilding plans.

South Sudan international playmaker Jackson Dwang has also crossed over from Posta Rangers FC, while rising youngster Ben Stanley is tipped to take on a significantly expanded role in the squad.

Despite these tactical additions, matching Morrison's unique influence, big-game temperament, and creativity will pose a formidable challenge for the technical bench. The Ghanaian leaves Gor Mahia as a league champion, a double award-winner, and one of the club's finest foreign acquisitions in recent memory.

While his high-profile move to Al-Merrikh offers him a fresh lucrative challenge in North Africa, Gor Mahia must now urgently find a tactical solution to replace the talisman who orchestrated their march back to domestic dominance.
