The National Police Service (NPS) now says that four suspects linked to the murder of Kasipul MP Ong'ondo Were have been arrested.
In the latest update, police said investigations had positively placed the four suspects at the crime scene and have recovered critical evidence.
"Upon further analysis of previously obtained leads, officers from the National Police Service swiftly conducted an operation and successfully arrested four suspects who had been positively placed at the crime scene.
"Investigators have also recovered crucial evidence linked to the crime, as well as to the perpetrators," Police spokesperson Muchiri Nyaga said.
He further noted that some of the suspects are members of a criminal gang that operates in Nairobi's Eastlands area.
"Some of the suspects arrested are members of organised criminal gangs, such as "Mjahidin", which has been linked to armed robberies in the Eastlands area of Nairobi."
The police further called on members of the public to remain calm and refrain from speculating, as detectives work diligently to ensure a thorough and impartial investigation.
The NPS said individuals not directly involved in the investigation to refrain from making comments that could hinder ongoing efforts.
"NPS investigators and the technical team are working tirelessly, leveraging their expertise, to establish the motive behind the fatal shooting and to bring all those involved to justice."
On Sunday morning, detectives handling the probe said they had a suspect in custody and had also recovered a car that the suspect and his accomplices were using in their mission.
The car was used in escaping from the scene after the shooting near City Mortuary along Valley Road, detectives said.
The same car has been captured on security cameras near Parliament Building, City Hall Way, Wabera Street, Kenyatta Avenue, Jakaya Kikwete Road, Argwings Kodhek Road and Valley Road.
These are the same roads the MP used from Parliament before he was shot and killed at point-blank range.
Were was gunned down in Nairobi on April 30 by unknown assailants riding on a motorcycle near the City Mortuary roundabout at around 7:30 p.m.
