Protests have officially kicked off in Kisii town on Wednesday morning as hundreds of demonstrators took to the streets, joining the wave of nationwide Gen-Z-led demonstrations.
The protesters, many of them young people, marched through the town centre in a show of unity to commemorate one year since the Finance Bill 2024 demonstrations.
In a video seen by the Star, the protestors were seen waving Kenyan flags, blowing whistles, and chanting slogans.
The demonstrators moved peacefully in groups.
Some of the protesters held up branches and green leaves while others raised their arms in synchronised chants.
Kisii becomes one of the latest counties to witness a
significant turnout in the ongoing protests, as similar demonstrations were
reported in Nairobi, Mombasa, Nakuru, and other towns.
Kenyans walked to the Nairobi CBD after vehicles were barred from accessing the city centre. Most businesses remained closed, and only a few people were seen walking around.
Police swiftly responded to a bonfire that had been lit by unknown individuals at Mama Ngina stage in Kinoo, Kiambu County, ahead of the anticipated Gen-Z-led nationwide protests.
Kisumu City witnessed minimal activity and slow movement on Wednesday morning, despite planned anti-government demonstrations expected to be led by Gen Z youth.
