Police in Kigumo, Murang’a County, are holding four suspects in connection with the gruesome murder of a woman whose body was delivered to the police station in a bag on September 24.
The victim, who has been identified as Hanna Wanjiru, was allegedly killed and her body wrapped in blankets, placed in a bag, and handed to a taxi driver to deliver to Kangari town.
According to Kigumo Subcounty Police Commander, Hassan Bashir, the four suspects in custody are Wanjiru’s husband, her two sons and the taxi driver who transported the body.
Speaking to the press, Bashir explained that the taxi driver, who operates along the Makomboki–Kangari route, was flagged down by a man he assumed was a passenger.
The man asked him to deliver a parcel to Kangari town, assuring him someone would be waiting to collect it.
After paying for the service in cash, the man helped load the heavy bag into the vehicle.
“When the driver reached Kangari, he did not find anyone waiting for the parcel,” Bashir said.
“After waiting for some time, the taxi driver decided to take it to the police station so officers could keep it in case the owner came forward,” he narrated.
At the police station, officers insisted the bag be opened, only to discover a human body wrapped in polythene and clothes.
“The officers acted swiftly, and preliminary investigations led to the arrest of the four suspects, who are now assisting us with investigations,” the police commander stated.
Bashir urged members of the public with any information about the case to come forward, assuring that the police are committed to uncovering the truth.
“We will leave no stone unturned, and anyone involved in the murder will be arrested and charged,” he said, noting the incident has sparked distress among local residents.
