Dennis Mwanja’s charges were in imperious form at the series opener, Driftwood Sevens in Mombasa, bagging maximum points and sending a warning to the opposition.
Mwanja believes his charges have the momentum to win back-to-back tournaments.
“It was a fantastic performance from the boys (in Mombasa). The new signings, such as George Ooro and Jenkins Kipruto, gelled well with the rest of the team. We want to continue with the good form,” noted Mwanja.
The bankers have strengthened their squad for the two-day showdown in the Rift Valley, bringing in Kenya Sevens half-back Samuel Asati and Brian Wahinya from the Simbas.
Mwanja said he has a full squad to choose from.
“Asati and Wahinya bring playmaking (skills) and their ability to open up defences. With these skills, alongside the finishing of Floyd Wabwire out wide, we are in a strong position to do well in this tournament,” he added.
KCB are in Pool ‘C’ where they face Nondies, Catholic University Monks and Kisumu RFC.
“It's a tricky pool. We are aware of the threats posed by Nondies, Catholic Monks, and Kisumu. We will stick to our structure and pattern of play to get results in the pool stage,” observed Mwanja.
The varsity side headline Pool ‘B’, where they meet Menengai Oilers, Daystar Falcons and Zetech Oaks. Ojal believes the best is yet to come from his charges.
“We played superbly in Mombasa and the boys are relishing the battle for this weekend. We have had three days to iron out the mistakes we had at the coast. We are looking forward to a good tournament,” observed Ojal.
Kabras Sugar, who secured the bronze medal in the opening leg, have a date with neighbours Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology, Impala and Mwamba in Pool ‘D’.
Hosts Nakuru face series holders Quins, Kabete Stallions and Mombasa Sports Club in Pool ‘A’. Nakuru Sevens coach, Oscar Ouma, is optimistic about his side’s chances after qualifying for the semis.
“We are in a good place. The boys are in high spirits and with the support of the fans, we can give them something special this weekend,” said Ouma.
